Friday Faves {hair}

Today I thought I’d feature some of my favorite hair products for Friday Faves. I’m a licensed hair dresser and love trying new products. Here are some of my favorites so far…
1. S-Factor Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner. Yum. I love the smell and love the way it makes my hair feel. Your hair will smell like skittles for days.

2. S-Factor Dream Drops. This has Jojoba oil & nutrients to nourish hair but doesn’t weigh it down. I seriously love them and you can’t beat the smell. Divine. I use it on my wet hair & always before I straighten or curl my hair.

3. When my hair is feeling especially fried I love Joico’s K-Pak Shampoo & Conditioner. I typically switch my shampoo & conditioner every other time and find my hair is cleaner & smoother that way. Joico K-Pak is the ultimate in reconstructing damaged hair. It has protein to help re-build your hair from the inside out.

4. I know this is a lot about Shampoo & Conditioner but I don’t use a lot of product in my hair. I love Schwarzkopf Repair Rescue. But their smoothing & color shampoo/conditioners are great too!

5. And for when I want to wear my hair curly, I love Foxy Curls. I’ve tried a lot of curly hair products and this has got to be my favorite. It smells heavenly and leaves my hair defined but not crunchy. I use the Contour Cream.

Hope this helped ya’ll to pick out your next hair care products! Have a great weekend!

When Life Gives You Lemons..

There’s something about fresh lemonade that makes all of life’s troubles seem not so bad. Not that I’m going through anything horrendous right now but sometimes you just need a break from life to sit back and enjoy. So that’s what I did. I made some ice cold lemonade, sat at my table and enjoyed. Now let’s get real it only lasted about 5 minutes before the baby was hungry, and the girls were tearing through the house like tornadoes. But it was a wonderful break anyway.

Friday Faves {no. 15}

1. I just bought this cutest polish. For Audrey by China Glaze. To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of China Glaze (OPI is my fave) It just doesn’t go on as smooth…BUT I love love love this color.

2. Bahahah Please tell me you’ve seen the The Laurence Welk Show skit on SNL. I can’t get through it without snorting or peeing my pants. Jk. But seriously…go watch it.

3. Oh. My. Word. Isn’t this the cutest?? If only Miss B & R would let me dress them however I wanted…

cute

4. I’m thinking I need to order myself an instagram book. I love Instagram. It’s fast and easy. And what better way to document my life full of Sonic drinks and my babies faces??

5. This hanging “zoo” is such a cute idea! I’m thinking I need it for my girls room and their zillions of tiny stuffed animals. Plus it will prevent them from dumping out the entire crate on the floor and never picking them up. Just sayin….

Felt Belt Tutorial

Hey everyone! Here is the tutorial I shared over at Sumo's Sweet Stuff the other day, I figured I should repost it here for anyone that didn't get a chance to see it.

Today I was going to share a quick little tutorial on how to spruce up any old outfit of yours. I can’t wait to make some more of these to wear with cardigans or pencil skirts this fall. Plus it took about 5 minutes to make so that never hurts.  All you need is some ribbon or bias tape, some felt & a glue gun.
Start out making your felt flowers. Here is how I made mine…easy peasy.
felt flower
1. Take a strip of felt. 2. Fold in half. 3. Cut fringe on folded side. 4. Roll & Hot glue.
felt flower2
1. Start with felt circle. 2. Cut around circle/spiral. 3. Start rolling from middle. 4. Hot glue.
Glue your felt flowers to a piece of felt. Cut a coordinating piece of felt that is the same size as your backing. Put the bias tape in the middle and sandwich your felt flower piece and the felt backing, with hot glue. Make sure the bias tape can slide through the flower so you can position it later once you have the belt on. I like to put knot the end by the flower and just let it drop down…

Done and done! Now go make a bunch to go with your outfits :) Thanks Sumo for having me!

Cilantro Lime Chicken Rice Bake

So, I don’t really know what to call this dish but it. is. delicious. This has become one of our family favorites. I’m not going to lie, it’s not a quick easy meal, but it’s worth it. It’s not difficult, just takes some time. My sister is the best cook and finds all the best recipes. Not sure where she got this one but it’s fabulous.
sb cass copy

Start with marinating your chicken. It has lime zest & juice, garlic, oil, & cilantro. Yum. I start this the night before so it can marinate all night & the next day. Plus, it’s one less thing to do for dinner.
sb marinade
The morning you’ll be eating the dinner I make creamy tomatillo ranch so it will thicken up by dinner time. I think it only needs a couple hours in the fridge but for me it’s easier to just get it out of the way.

Then you start the layering. On the bottom goes your cilantro lime rice:sb limechkn

Then you put your shredded grilled chicken down and spread sour cream on top:

I don’t have a picture of the next step but you then layer mango salsa on top of the sour cream and cover it with shredded pepper jack cheese.
And this is the end result…DElish.

Now for the recipes:
Cilantro Lime Chicken Marinade (for 4 chicken breasts)
-3/4 c vegtable oil
-Juice and zest of 2 limes
-2 cloves garlic -2 tsp sugar
-1/2 tsp salt -1/4 tsp black pepper
-1/2 C finely chopped cilantro
*I put everything in blender and have it mix and chop it

  Cilantro Lime Rice
-1 cup uncooked rice
-1 can chicken broth
-1 cup water
-2 cloves garlic, minced
-1 Tbls freshly squeezed lime juice
-2 tsp sugar
-3 Tbls finely chopped cilantro
* I throw the rice, broth, water, garlic & some lime juice into a rice cooker and let it cook. While it’s cooking I mix the sugar, lime juice & cilantro in a bowl. When rice is finished fluff the rice while mixing the sugar mixture into the rice.

Creamy Tomatillo Dressing
-1 batch prepared Ranch Buttermilk Dressing
-3-5 tomatillos (quartered)
-1 handful of cilantro
-1 jalepeno (optional)
-juice of 1 lime
-salt & pepper to taste
*Blend all ingredients in blender and chill for 2 hours before serving.
*This ranch is for drizzling on top of each slice of casserole after it's been cooked right before serving.

-Sour cream for 3rd layer (I use almost a whole small container of sour cream)

**To create your bake: Layer cilantro lime rice, then grilled chicken, then sour cream, mango salsa (we buy prepared from deli), cover the top with shredded pepperjack cheese. Bake at 350 degrees until heated through, about 20 min. Then turn on broil until the cheese crisps a little. When serving, drizzle tomatillo dressing on top and ENJOY!

Our Farmhouse Table

Guys I have been waiting to show you our table until the chairs are finished but seeing as it’s 500 degrees in AZ right now I have a feeling they won’t be getting done any time soon. I painted 2 and thought I was going to die..  I also can’t figure out how to get a good picture of the color. No matter what time of day I’m taking these pictures they don’t turn out right. So, here it goes anyways!  Thank heavens I have a nice hubby who will build me a table. Love him and love his wood working skills! We got the plans here. I love Ana White’s website and all of her plans. I show the hubster plans every night and tell him how easy it would be to build me furniture all day long. For some reason he doesn’t believe me..
My Instagram pics documenting the project…I’m pretty sure the lady at Home Depot hated my guts and Vanilla Coke kept me going through this whole process.

In the process of framing the table out. I love Ana White and her easy to follow instructions!!

And here it is in all it’s glory! I love it so so much! I think I’ll love it even more once we have our chairs finished and we don’t eat on half broken folding chairs. Maybe not…who knows? (I sealed it with Miniwax Polyurethane. It was way easy to apply and so far has held up good. I need all the help I can get with two toddlers running around..)
